What Is Autosave in WordPress

WordPress autosave is a feature that automatically saves your work as you go. It periodically saves drafts of your content while you are working on it so that if you accidentally close your browser or lose power, you won’t lose everything you’ve written.

This can be a lifesaver if you’re working on a long post or page and don’t want to risk losing your progress.

How to Enable Autosave and Recover Data

To enable autosave, go to your user profile page (Users > Your Profile) and check the box next to “Enable auto-saving of drafts.” Once you’ve done this, WordPress will automatically save a draft of your post or page every 60 seconds.

You can change this interval if you like by going to Settings > Writing and changing the “Save draft every X seconds” setting.

If you have autosave enabled, you will see a notice at the top of the post editor screen telling you when the last autosave occurred. Autosaved drafts are stored in your browser’s local storage, so they will only be available on the computer or device you were using when you created them.

If you need to recover an autosaved draft, simply go to the post editor screen and click the “Recover Autosave” button that appears below the main content area. This will load the most recent autosaved draft into the editor, so you can pick up where you left off.

WordPress autosave is a useful feature that can help you avoid losing your work if something goes wrong.

However, it’s important to remember that autosaved drafts are not backed up, so you should still save your posts and pages regularly as you work on them. Autosave is no substitute for a backup.
